Activities and Other Popular Things to do on a Tropical Honeymoon

So you’re engaged and it’s time to pose the question – “What should I see and do on my honeymoon?

This is where all the fun begins.  The time when you escape all the stress of planning your wedding and delve into the enjoyment of planning your honeymoon.

A honeymoon activity should be something that excites you and your partner.  The list below describes ideas that are perfect for both genders.

Spend the Day Hiking in the Rainforest

If you’re lucky enough to be in a location with a tropical rainforest, spending the day hiking the trails and exploring waterfalls can be a day well spent.  Typically free or occasionally for a small park entry fee, it’s an inexpensive way to enjoy the day.  It’s also a great way to spend some intimate time with your partner.

If you’re both of the competitive nature, try challenging yourselves to make it to the top.  Start at the bottom and work your way up.  Doing this is a great way to collaboratively work together to achieve a common goal.  The end result is very much fulfilling and a great honeymoon activity.

  • El Yunque (Puerto Rico)
  • Kauai (Hawaii)
  • Jamaica

Take a Splash with Snorkeling

Snorkeling is one of the most popular things to do on a tropical honeymoon destination.  Why is that?  Water – and lots of it!  Tropical destinations naturally are surrounded by large bodies of water.  The only other requirement is a face mask and breathing tube and you’ve got your day made out.  Also, being in a place with a tropical climate, this activity can be enjoyed at all times of the year.

Whether it’s Hawaii, Caribbean Islands, Bora Bora, or places off the coast of Mexico, snorkeling is enjoyed all over.  Coral and large reefs are always nice to see but not all places are privileged with these wonders. However, this should not deter you from taking a dip in the water.  There are still thousands of tropical fish, stingrays, and other sea creatures that thrill us with enjoyment and bring out the “kid” in us all.

A few of the more popular snorkeling areas:

  • Molokai Island (Hawaii)
  • Providenciales (Turks and Caicos)
  • Cozumel (Mexico)

Explore Historical Landmarks

Who says exploring historic landmarks can’t be fun?  During the day, take a few hours to appreciate the historical aspects of your honeymoon destination.  Many places are so rich with history that you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t at least take a look around.  One way to check this off the list is by touring a local museum.  They’re a great learning tool and a way to view hundreds of artifacts and other components that have contributed to the country’s history and transformation into a country.

Aside from museums, some destinations have “must see” landmarks.  For example, Puerto Rico is home to El Morro, an old fortress that is several hundred years old and is a major draw to the island.  The entire site can be walked and enjoyed in just a couple hours.  Sites such as El Morro are great ways to immerse oneself in the history and provide great table conversation with friends and family.

  • El Morro (Puerto Rico)
  • Rose Hall Plantation (Jamaica)
  • Old Vallarta (Mexico)

In the Evenings, Enjoy a Nice Dinner Followed by a Sunset Walk

Great, so you have spent your day exploring the island by land and sea.  Now it’s time to relax and enjoy a relaxing and peaceful moment with your partner.

A honeymoon dinner and sunset walk along the beach are perfect nightcaps.  This is when you can reflect on the day and the incredible journey to get here.  For a truly romantic dinner, dine at a local restaurant along the beach front as it shouldn’t be hard finding a good place to eat on the water.

Some places will even have tables in the sand.  You can’t get much closer to the water than this.  Dining at one of these establishments are always fun and a great way to feel connected to your environment.  You will also find these places serve incredible fish entrees with impeccable service.

Post dinner and if the timing is just right, walks along the beach watching the sun’s descent into the horizon is a great way to end the night.  Such a simple thing brings about lasting memories.  The scent of the air, the warmth of the climate, and the sound of water crashing the shore, create a memorable imprint in the mind that is forever remembered.
